First Aid Guide for Illness & Emergencies

Step 1

• Turn on the AED. Follow the visual or audio steps.

Step 2

• Attach the AED pads and connectors. (Diagram 4)

Step 3

• Push the “analyze” button. The AED will analyze the heart rhythm and tell you if a shock is needed. Do not touch the victim during analysis.

Step 4

• If a shock is needed, tell everyone to “stand clear” (move away, do not touch the victim) and when all are clear including you, push the “shock” button.

Step 5

• Quickly restart CPR if the person is not breathing.

Step 6

• Follow the AED instructions, while you continue CPR, until emergency medical services (EMS) or a trained medical responder arrives on the scene.
